I am a professional modem IC designer and I am particularly interested in satellite broadband modem for user terminals. I have been concentrating on satellite and wireless communications over the last couple of years, specializing in modulation and demodulation for satellite broadband communications in the DVB standard series. I have designed some modulator and demodulator IP cores based on FPGA and SDR/DSP etc. In addition I have been preparing for a book called "Modulation and demodulation IC design for satellite communications" with special focus on broadband Internet and LEO satellites operating according to DVB standards.

Modulator, Demodulator, Modem ICs and IP Cores Design for Satellite Internet

 

All our IP cores are developed in HDL (Hardware Description Language) using the top down design methodology. All our IP cores are simulated at behavioral and gate levels and are provided with methodology scripts, exhaustive standard compliance verification suites and complete documentation. Our methodology also includes, for complex communication system design, hardware verification with application and development boards. In addition, our IP cores are specifically designed to achieve a high level of re-usability to dramatically reduce the development time of complex applications.

Our IP cores are available for licensing at the source code level as well as at the binary bitstream level providing customers with maximum flexibility and future-proofing. For customers with particular needs, our IPs can offer optional customization services in addition to the included technical support. As well as standard and customized IP products, full custom design services are also available.

 

IC or IP Core Design for Satellite Internet

 

We design integrated circuits and IP cores for PC and mobile broadband satellite Internet (SatNet) access systems with or without satellite bases, for portable uses for single person and home, movable on any point of the earth or fixed use.

The modem ICs and IP cores are designed for use in satellite based broadband Internet communications for home and professionals and will also be made available to businesses, communities, governments and the defense in the future.

The ICs and IP cores can be incorporated into various satellite transmitters, receivers, transceivers, modems, terminals, indoor units on the ground or onboard the satellites.

Design of Modem ICs for Satellite Broadband Internet - My lifetime Mission

 

I have been developing modem ICs for satellite broadband Internet, for ground use, over the last years. My designs are involved in satellite / wireless communications, modulation and demodulation, error correction and coding technologies and some wireless communications technologies, as well as IC design technologies, tools and methodologies. I am developing my modem ICs with the latest reconfigurable technologies based mainly on FPGA. On the FPGA many processing units such as GPU, DSP are integrated which can make the modems compatible with as many communications protocols, standards and modulation schemes as possible. I've developed some separate IPs such as modulators, and demodulators and at the moment I am working on a modulator based in FPGA, HDL and others to cope with several modulation schemes such as BPSK, FSK, MSK, OQPSK, UQPSK and for DVB S2X applications. The modem IPs are available as proprietorial IP products in the form of a binary netlist, which can be integrated into modem blocks of other modem vendors.

Various communications technologies, modulation and demodulation technologies, coding technologies, error correction codes, VLSI technologies (FPGA, GPU, DSP, SDR, etc) are applied to make the design compatible with the latest chip technologies and its extensibility possible. HDL will be applied for the architectural and schematic design.

I can also design modem ICs for a vast scope of wireless RF and cable communications. I'm particularly focusing on satellite broadband Internet (Satnet) modem IP cores design, for I foresee that the future broadband will all be based on satellite technologies. For this purpose I am developing a web portal called "Angelia Modem" - http://www.angelia.space for this part of the technology.

I'm now particularly specializing in design of modem and its ICs. The modem ICs are designed for use in wireless and cable communications for home and professionals and will also be made available to industries, businesses, communities, governments and the defense in the near future.

The ICs can be incorporated into various terminals, indoor and outdoor units and modems on the ground.

My lifetime mission is to design the best modem ICs in the industry across the world.

 
 

Modem Design with FPGA

 
One of the design technologies is to use FPGA platforms provided by major technology developers such as Xilinx, Altera, Microsemi etc. Compared with ASIC design or GPU based design, FPGA based modem design features rich of design tools and third party models and IPs, and seamless integration of these tools and models. The drawbacks of FPGA modem design is the relativel lower power and sprectrum density, and the difficulty to design wide band modem in the GHz area.
